How we work

Brunel Co-Innovate Journeys will grow the breadth and depth of our support to London SMEs through a menu of 8 distinctive components. The project will connect SMEs to open innovation and research practices at Brunel to identify, design, develop and test new or significantly improved products, services or systems. We will expand existing ‘smart specialism’ strengths in advanced manufacturing and food and packaging into further areas where there are strong synergies between our R&I capabilities and emerging opportunities for innovation in the London economy. This will engage 240 SMEs and 120 collaborative ventures.

Design-driven innovation is increasingly recognised as a key activity to bring ideas to the market, transforming them into user-friendly and appealing products or services. Brunel Co-Innovate Journeys builds on the lessons and delivery of the Co-Innovate ecosystem and will connect SMEs  to open innovation and research practices at Brunel to identify, design, develop and test new or significantly improved products, services and systems. The project will create new pathways to enable SMEs to build relationships and access user-orientated research and design facilities and expertise from Brunel University London. The programme is based on an open innovation funnel and the 8 components of the ecosystem, which has been designed to provide a flexible menu of support for SMEs:

  1. Promotion and Network Engagement
  2. Innovation Mentoring
  3. Smart Audits
  4. Brunel Innovation Vouchers
  5. Collaborative Projects
  6. Readiness for Funding Support
  7. Innovation Associates
  8. Making the Future Workspaces and Prototyping
